The Lichte's New Farmhouse........ Week 22

Hi everyone,

My farmer and I have spent the day recovering from the Holiday week... As I mentioned last week we didn't get out any Christmas decorations, but I have been going through it all today really good and getting everything organized for the new house. I'm also slowly starting to box things uo for the big move 100 feet away.

Of course we also spent a good chunk of our afternoon watching the Chiefs game. While we needed a Chiefs W, and two other teams to lose, those odds were about as good as my farmer letting me order that rug from Pottery Barn for our back entry way. Neither one of them happened- maybe next year for us both, Kansas City.

This is our Week 22 picture. Another good day or two and shingles will all be on. You will notice I don't have tin on my front porch. With such a higher price than just our shingles, we decided to nix the tin. Building a home there are so many thing (costs) that are out of our control (lumber and concrete to name a couple) so we need to be as conscious as we can about the costs that we can control. (Like that Pottery Barn rug - give me credit for trying).... :)

We did meet with our cabinet guy again this past week so our floors have bright orange paint where we will have cabinets. This is part of our kitchen. Our kitchen island below...

Speaking of the bathtub - I got that ordered this pas week. With the okay from my builder and plumber I actually ordered by bathtub online from www.vintagetub.com 

A couple of other things that I purchased for the house this past week. 

I ordered two of these for the upstairs bathroom. It's a horrible blurry picture but I couldn't get a better one downloaded off the Internet. The finish is chrome (as it will be in all of my bathrooms and kitchen)...

Not sure if I mentioned this a couple of weeks ago when we actually purchased this, but we got a double oven from Home Depot. We have a single oven under our stove and a double wall oven - I have promised my farmer that I will do a lot of baking.

It looks tiny in this picture but it's actually a pretty decent sized light. This will be on the ceiling at our back entryway from the garage. I love the finish of the fixture, it's a darker copper color. 

And last but not least, this is our exterior garage door. We went with no glass since our garage doors have so much detail and this door is right next to them - we wanted to keep it a little more simple. I love this door and this will also end up being all of our interior doors as well. 

Well I think that's all for now. Our families had such a wonderful Christmas and I have just uploaded all of our Christmas Pictures and will upload them all to the blog in a couple of days.

The Lichte's New Farmhouse..... Week 21

Merry Christmas Eve everyone....

This post (that I normally do on Sunday evenings) is three days late. I am sure just like everyone else the past week has been crazy busy. I am seriously just getting the chance to sit down that doesn't include making a grocery list or wrap a present.

My farmer and I put up no Christmas decorations this year. It was a wise choice - we have no room for a Christmas Tree in our house that is full of light fixtures and other house things, but I do miss the warmth of the Christmas tree lights.  While my farmer was pleased with the decision to nix all Christmas decor, I made him promise that we will go all out next year. I can bet you that that will be a promise that he may live to regret....

Back to the house stuff... It's been spitting rain all week so roofing has been very minimal this week.

I have never been that crazy about the back of the house (probably because of this house my backyard will consist of a corn field) but it's just never been one of my favorite things... NOW with the windows in and almost all the shingles on and talking about back porch pillars, it's definitely starting to inspire me.

Last week i mentioned a surprise about my garage doors. 

I have known that I wanted the barn style garage doors, but haven't had any luck in finding some for our size (we have taller and wider doors)... My husband has always used Quality Overhead Door out of Odessa, and that very very nice gentlemen that owns that Company has offered to custom make me some garage doors. (Which reminds me - I need to make him some cinnamon rolls).

AND to end it with a view of our house from the gravel road. (Yes, I had my farmer drive slow so I could take a picture) Next year it will be covered in Christmas Lights and garland...
 

I hope that you all have a very Merry Christmas. I am headed to iron our Christmas Outfits (yes, at 30 years old I still have a "Christmas Dress") and head to dinner with our family and Christmas Eve Church Service. 

It truly is the most wonderful time of the year.

The Lichte's New Farmhouse..... Week 20

It was a big week ... Framing is DONE... and our roof is close to half way on (minus the tin on the front porch which will take a couple of weeks to come in).. My farmer and I are breathing a little sigh of relief to have our home almost fully covered. It's a nice feeling to know that our floors will see no more rain/snow.... But I am pretty sure my farmer is going to miss his three new friends (the guys on the framing crew)....

Week 20 (I can't believe its been 20 weeks since we have started)

Still waiting on our front door so that's the big open space in the front left.

I love how the back of our house is looking... With it almost all shingled and the windows in - it's really coming together. Now I can't wait for siding and shutters.

We are also still waiting on our french doors onto our back porch and two windows. All of them have transom windows above-so therefore it took a little bit longer. 

We also got the concrete floor to our back porch. 

It's not really finalized yet - but I am really excited to share my garage doors with you. That will be on next weeks blog (I can hardly wait).... They are perfect - very farmhouse-ish..

Today was a beautiful day... My farmer spent it in the field getting last minute things done before another round of rain and I spent it sweeping up the new house.

As I jammed to Luke Bryan on pandora radio and walked around picking up little pieces of scrap wood and sweeping, I couldn't help but walk to the front of the house and look upstairs. I could almost hear the pitter patter of little feet running around playing, next I walked into the kitchen and saw busy mornings with cereal and toast, lazy Sunday afternoons on the couch in the living room, the outside where the front steps will be- and where I will take my kids picture every year in the same spot on the first day of school. And I can't forget the porch swing where I will most definitely be rocking a baby to sleep someday. I saw our whole life in that house and let me tell you - It was a beautiful one.

Building a house is hard, it's expensive, it's stressful, it's consuming, did I mention it's expensive - But building our home meant building our life, a house may just be four walls, but I can promise you that this farmhouse is much more than that - it's our everything (and a good chunk is the banks too)

The Lichte's New Farmhouse.... Week 19

Week 19.... the roof is almost completely on. And I think that the roofers will start putting on shingles  this week as well. And maybe windows and a front door this week too. I guess we will just wait and see.

It makes it look so much different and I can really start to get a "feel" for what I want on my front porch (swings and rockers)...

We will add a breadboard to the ceiling of the front porch and the back porch. Like any old Southern style home we will also paint it a pale blue like in these photos. 

I leave town for one day (to Warsaw to my Aunt's cabin) and come home to find that we have heated floors on the back porch..... As silly as it may sound (and as mad as I was) because of the size the price was minimal AND someday if we decide to make it into a sun room OR screened in porch - we will be happy that we did... At least that was my farmers pitch. 

That's all for Week 19... I keep hearing that the fun part if just around the corner - and while it's all been fun I am ready to start making this house our farmhouse...
