The Lichte's New Farmhouse..... Week 35

Seriously... Look at that big, blue, beautiful sky..... Week 35 was full of so many exciting things. I see it all come together a little more everyday. Lots of trim - lots of siding.

I can't wait to see the black shutters on the windows. Everything is all white and I really think the shutters are going to make a big difference.

The headers of the trim are on - it really does just make the doorways and windows stand out.

This banister and this staircase is the ONE reason we built a 2 story home. It sounds silly to say it and even more silly to type it out - but it's true...

Check out that volute -  I have one on the left and one on the right side. They will be stained a dark cherry color.

They have also started working on the library panel wainscoting that will go up the stairs.

The kitchen doorway has a transom glass in the top.

In the master bathroom shower - we will have it all tiled. The square inserts along with the shower floor will be a marble basket weave.

Isn't this a beautiful piece of stone...

In addition to the shower floor and square inserts, I plan to do a design on the middle of the floor like the one.

AND.... Maybe my favorite view of the whole house. Coming through the garage door to the back "mudroom" of the house you see this - the long hall into the living room and parts of that staircase. I see our whole life in the hallway. Different stages - babies running around in a diaper, older kids running out of the door running late, kids coming home for college but leaving all to quickly... I see stuff like that in most every room of this house.

Lots of people build homes every single day, but with this home and these rooms I have envisioned Christmas Mornings, Easter Egg Hunts, Saturday Morning Pancakes, The best of times and the hardest of times will all happen within these walls. They'll be good and they will be beautiful.

So whether you are building a new home or not - I sure hope you see great things in your hallways too.

The Lichte's New Farmhouse.... Week 34

Week 34... CABINETS and TRIM....

Almost half of our cabinets got installed last week. To say that it was fun is a complete understatement. Cabinets are a big deal, I have put ALOT of thought into each and every piece. So to see it come together like this is rewarding.

This is the back mudroom. That door to the right of the built in lockers goes to the garage. These lockers will be painted white and have antique brass pulls and hooks. Baskets will go in the very top cubby and possibly the very bottom one on the floor too.

The Laundry Room....

I have double sconces that will go on each side of the window. An old sink from my farmers grandparents house will be directly under the window. Hopefully the big drawers to the right will house some table linens.

And the is my little desk that is in the laundry room. Let's face it - most of the time it will have folded laundry on top of it, but there is a piece to the far left that pulls all the way out and I will be able to sew/craft. It will be painted white but the top will be stained.

The washing machine will go to the left, there is laundry basket storage in the middle and the dryer will go to the right. The middle section above is open shelving. I am picturing little jars of clothespins, but in reality I am sure it will be a catch all for change, lent, etc.... I can have high hopes though - right...

The Living Room... I think I was the most worried about how this piece would turn out. I knew what I wanted, but had a very hard time really describing it. Well - when I walked in and saw this piece. I may have cried (happy tears).. There will be adjustable shelves in all four of the sections and it too will be painted white. At one point I was worried about he arch in the top, I was debating weather it would be a timeless piece or if it would date pretty quickly. After seeing it - I love the softness that it gives this room.

My farmers office.... It's not quite put together yet, so you will have to tune in to Week 35 for more of that.

And.. One of my favorite things on this whole house - the built in bookcases and bench in the upstairs front bedroom. I told my farmer that I am going to go ahead and paint this room pink because a little girl needs to live in this room. Isn't it the sweetest? These will be painted white and I will have glass pills and knobs.

The upstairs Jack/Jill bathroom vanities. They, too will be painted white.

And in that bathroom we have a built in floor to ceiling linen closet. The bottom will be pull out hampers.

hamper drawers -

That's it for cabinets as of now.. My farmers office should be put together this next week and hopefully the kitchen and 1/2 bath will come later on this week. I can't wait to see the rest.

My tile guy put in concrete flooring for the parts of the house that will have tile (the laundry room, master bath and upstairs bath.)

Our trim also got started last week. So far its just the baseboards and trim around the doors. It will all be painted white. It's a fairly traditional style trim. Very similar to what is in my parents home (which is over 100 years old)...

It will end up looking something like this...

For the outside, in addition to putting on some more siding we also got our porch ceilings primed.

Remember they will be painted a pale blue like in this photo...

We are 34 weeks into building this home - and maybe 10 weeks left to go.... It's been such a roller coaster of feelings and emotions so far. Lots of fun, exciting times, quickly followed by stressful times. Money, time, more money and more time, seems like all its been.

I had a little moment Saturday morning early. Coffee in hand I grabbed my mud boots (hello spring on the farm) and headed for the new house. And there I was - walking around, looking at cabinets and trim and wood floors, drinking coffee in my house. A house that in a few short weeks (or 10) I will be  in. So while I have had many moments where I have been very stressed, angry, impatient, bummed (you name it I have felt it in this journey) and let's be honest, I am sure to still feel some of these things again in the next 10 weeks. But I took a moment and remembered what this felt like. Just me and my farmer, and for a little bit longer a much more simple life. These days that we are having now won't ever happen again. So while I spend most everyday wishing I was in my new house - I am going to do my best to cherish the ones I have left here with my farmer.

National Ag Day

This blog was started as a documentation for our family. It's been just that, with ALOT of action of the new house. I will be ready for the house to be done so I can start blogging recipes, crafts, decorating tips, etc... Please don't hold me to that - I feel extra motivation today. I skipped my 5 a.m. workout and sipped coffee for a couple of hours this morning instead. It was glorious.

This link is filled with interesting (okay, interesting to me) facts about faming... I'm just a first generation farmwife, so I will leave all of the facts and details to people who know what they are talking about. OR my sweet farmer who has been sitting in a tractor his whole life and farming for almost 20 years.

National Ag Day Fun Facts

There are a lot of jokes about farmers out there. I have told a few myself.

Farmers work 4 weeks in the spring, 4 weeks in the fall and then complain about it the rest of the 44 weeks of the year. That's funny, right? I laughed, my farmer sort of pretended to laugh, BUT the point is, I could not be more proud of my husband and all of the sacrifices he has always made to be able to farm. From the kid riding in a bouncy tractor to the man that he is now - I am feeling blessed today.

SO Happy National Ag Day to all of the farmers and people in Agriculture.

Here are two of my favorites!

The Lichte's New Farmhouse...... Week 33

Week 33 was a great one. The weather has been absolutely perfect so in turn there was a TON of stuff done on the house. We keep eating "this is when things really start to slow down" but so far that has not been the case....

Week 33 picture. Check out that beautiful blue sky.

Anyone notice anything new ?? Yes - we are finally getting some siding. It looks so good.

We went with white (obviously) vinyl siding.

Another huge thing that happened during week 33 was WOOD FLOORS. Custom Wood Floors out of Lee's Summit laid them. We were so excited and pleased with them.

The shadows in the photo make it appear darker than the floor actually is. We did a grade 1 which has a little less grain than regular oak floors.

Shortly before we move in they will come back and sand and stain them. During this process we are doing what s called "Water Popping".... They will mop the floor with water right before they stain them and that will bring the grain to the surface and hold color as opposed to bleeding down to the grain.

The end result will look more uniform than the typical hardwood floors - hopefully something like this. Maybe not quite as red...

The whole house has hardwood floors except the laundry room (brick), the master bath and the upstairs kids bath (both tile) and the upstairs playroom/living room (carpet)..

Next to the hardwood floors, my open staircase has been the most exciting thing to plan and pick out. To my delight all of our staircase pieces were delivered this week as well. These are the spindles - they are primed white but they will be painted a bright white to match the rest of my cabinets and trim.

This is one of the two volutes that will be at the bottom of my stairs (one on each side)...

It's made out of maple (very uniform look and less grainy) so it will be stained a very dark color - similar to this one .

Our interior doors got delivered as well, This is our master bedroom door (it's a double door)... They are primed white but ill also be painted a bright white.

Our garage currently looks like a mill. This is all of our trim.

That is all for Week 33... Our trim guy starts next week so I have been doing "research" on closet storage and organization all day. It's been fun - and overwhelming...

My farmer and I had a birthday party last night for my mother-in-law... Here are some of my favorite shots from the night...

Have a great week everyone.
